The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has given a December 15deadline to contractors handling the Eleme–Onne section of the East-West Roadin Rivers State to complete the work or face sanctions. This was as he expressed dissatisfaction over the slow paceof the work. The minister made the complaint while inspecting the ongoingproject at the section. He warned that the federal government would not extend thetimeline beyond that date. “The pace of the work is totally not acceptable. And let memake it very, very clear to the contractor: this project can never be reviewedby a Kobo, neither can there be any POP—variation of price—or any other claimson the project. “You complained of rain, but there are a lot of works thatcould go under the rain. For example, we’ve noticed a number of failures, areasthat failed under this carriageway which is Port Harcourt-bound.” Umahi, who regretted that the job is totally being delayed, told the controller in the area to issue the contractor another letter ofwarning.
