Enugu State has officially received the symbolic NAFEST Gong, confirming its role as the host of the 2025 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), scheduled for November 22–29, 2025. The announcement marks a triumphant return for the state, which last hosted the prestigious event in 2008, and signals its ambition to showcase Nigeria’s cultural richness on a grand stage.Governor Peter Mbah, accepting the gong in a vibrant ceremony on Wednesday, expressed pride in Enugu’s selection, emphasizing the state’s readiness to deliver an unparalleled celebration of Nigeria’s diverse heritage. “Seventeen years after our last hosting, Enugu is poised to welcome the nation and the world to an unforgettable NAFEST that will celebrate our unity in diversity,” Mbah declared, highlighting the state’s thriving creative economy and deep cultural roots.The week-long festival, a cornerstone of Nigeria’s cultural calendar, will feature traditional music, dance, drama, crafts, and cuisine from across the country, drawing participants and visitors from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Enugu, known as the “Coal City,” plans to leverage its legendary hospitality and modern infrastructure to create a memorable experience, with events expected to unfold across iconic venues like the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the Michael Okpara Square.Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke, outlined ambitious plans to make NAFEST 2025 a global spectacle. “Enugu is ready to showcase not just our Igbo heritage but the mosaic of Nigeria’s traditions. From our masquerades to our culinary delights, we’re set to spark a cultural renaissance,” she said. The state government has also launched a promotional campaign inviting Nigerians, diaspora communities, and international culture enthusiasts to join the festivities.The 2008 edition, hosted under then-Governor Sullivan Chime, set a high bar with its vibrant displays and economic boost for local artisans. Organizers are confident that 2025 will surpass it, with additional focus on youth engagement, digital arts, and eco-friendly initiatives to align with modern cultural trends.
