Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has criticized Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, accusing him of seeking relevance through unnecessary distractions. In a recent social media post, Yesufu claimed Wike undermined his own influence by ceding control of Rivers State to President Bola Tinubu, leaving him with diminished bargaining power.Yesufu argued that Wike’s decision to align with Tinubu handed the president direct access to Rivers State through Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who she says will remain loyal to Tinubu. She further dismissed Wike’s influence in Abuja, stating that “plots of land” are insufficient to secure the kind of loyalty he once commanded in Rivers.Shifting focus to electoral integrity, Yesufu urged Nigerians to prioritize addressing election rigging by targeting individuals within institutions who enable such practices, rather than solely focusing on the institutions themselves. “No rigging can happen without people agreeing to do so,” she emphasized, calling for accountability to ensure free and fair elections.Yesufu’s comments have sparked discussions online, with many weighing in on Wike’s political strategy and the broader issue of electoral reform in Nigeria. She wrote:"Wike is looking for relevance and an unnecessary distraction! He shot himself in the foot when he handed Rivers that was his bargaining chip to Tinubu. "Tinubu now has direct access to Rivers via Fubara who will be loyal! As for Abuja, it is not that easy to have a hold over like Rivers. Plots of lands are not enough to buy that kind of loyalty Election is what we should focus on." No rigging can happen without people agreeing to do so.Instead of focusing on the institutions, focus on the people in the institutions that do the rigging".
