The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has warned contractorshandling federal roads to meet agreed deadlines or face the Economic andFinancial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practice andother Related Offenses Commission, ICPC. Umahi gave this warning on Saturday while inspectingsections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano road project as well as the Abuja-Lokojahighway. The Minister stated that he would invite anti-graft agenciesto probe contractors handling sections of the Abuja–Lokoja highway who, despitecollecting some mobilisation funds, have achieved less than 20 per centprogress on their projects. Speaking on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, he said, “We haveinformed the president that the time of completion for the project is 14 monthsfor section 1 and 3 and 2. For section 1 and 3, a total of 118 kilometres wasgiven at a total price of N252 billion. On the Abuja to Lokoja road, the Minister put the length atabout 230 kilometres multiplied by two, stressing that the entire length wasabout 460 kilometres. Umahi threatened the contractor handling the project that ifsubstantial work is not completed by November, the work will be discontinued.
