An Owerri-based lawyer, Chinedu Agu has been remanded at theOwerri Correctional Centre over alleged cyberstalking, criminal defamation andincitement articles criticising Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration. Agu pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge, but anOwerri Chief Magistrate, Obinna Njemanze said he had no jurisdiction to try thematter and ordered Agu remanded pending the advice of the Imo State Director ofPublic Prosecutions, DPP. The matter was adjourned to October 29, 2025. The magistrate also rejected a bail application led byformer Imo State Attorney-General, Milletus Nlemadim on behalf of Agu. The charges against the lawyer originated from varioussocial media posts in which he allegedly criticised the state government andthe Nigeria Police Force. According to the prosecutors, on August 30, 2025, Agu wroteon Facebook that “the courts are closed and justice has been kidnapped not bybandits in the bush, but by bandit in government” and described the state as“tyranny trapped in sinking bureaucracy.”
