A fresh crisis brews in Nigeria’s oil sector as thePresident of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria,PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo, has confirmed that Dangote Refinery sacked all itsNigerian workers after they joined the union. He made this known in an exclusive interview with DAILY POSTon Friday. This comes after reports that the 650,000barrel-per-day refinery sacked all its Nigerian workers 24 hours after theyjoined PENGASSAN. Reacting, Osifo, who doubled as the president of Nigeria’sTrade Union Congress, assured that the company would reverse the decision. “Yes, it is true. We saw the latter late last night(Wednesday). “I can assure you that they will recall all of them,” he disclosed. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Dangote Group, AnthonyChijiena, is yet to respond to enquiry as of the time of filing thisreport. Recall that in the past weeks, Dangote Refinery and theNigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers have engaged in a face-offover the unionisation of workers. NUPENG had declared a strike before it was suspended afterthe intervention of the Federal Government. In a recent move, Dangote Refinery secured an interiminjunction restraining the union and its affiliates from embarking on strike. Meanwhile, the interim order has since expired.
