Dangote refinery resumes petrol sale in naira after FG’s intervention

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of petrol innaira, a day after suspending the initiative. In an email to clients on Saturday, Dangote refinery saidthe resumption was as a result of the federal government’s intervention. “Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technicalcommittee chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS Salesin Naira commencing immediately,” the email reads. “You may kindly proceed to place your orders in Naira forboth Self collection and Free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locationsacross the country.” On Friday, the refinery suspended the sale of petrol innaira, citing the depletion of its crude-for-naira allocation. Nigeria commenced the sale of crude oil and refinedpetroleum products in naira to local refineries on October 1, 2024, to improvesupply, save the country millions of dollars in petroleum products imports, andultimately reduce pump prices. On March 10, 2025, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC)Limited halted the naira-for-crude deal until 2030, as the government-ownedcompany had forward-sold all its crude oil. Days later, Dangote refinery said it had temporarily haltedthe sale of petroleum products in naira. However, on April 9, the federal government said thenaira-for-crude oil deal will continue after the first phase, which ended onMarch 31. On May 9, Wale Edun, the minister of finance andcoordinating minister of the economy, promised to provide further updates onthe naira-for-crude deal in due course.
