The Lagos State Government has confirmed that constructionof the $3 billion Green Line rail project, which will link Marina to the Lekkicorridor, is set to commence in December 2025. This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner forTransportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement shared via the stategovernment’s official X handle on Monday. According to Osiyemi, the government has concludedcomprehensive feasibility studies and held multiple stakeholder engagementsalong the Lekki-Epe corridor in preparation for the project’s launch. The Green Line rail, projected to be completed within two tothree years, will be executed in phases. The first phase will span from theLekki First Tollgate to Epe, while the second phase, beginning from Marina,will include an innovative on-water segment. “The government has conducted extensive consultations andfeasibility assessments along the Lekki-Epe Expressway corridor ahead of theGreen Line’s commencement in December,” the statement quoted Osiyemi as saying.“The project, expected to last two to three years, will connect Marina to Epe,with construction to proceed in phases, the initial phase covering Lekki FirstTollgate to Epe and the second, from Marina, to be developed over water.” The announcement comes as the state intensifies enforcementoperations along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, clearing encroachments andreclaiming wetlands critical to preserving the Green Line’s designatedright-of-way.
