Tinubu Orders New Auditorium for Nigerian Law School, Flags Off 600-Bed Hostels in Bwari - Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, NyesomWike, on Monday disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has ordered theconstruction of another auditorium for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja. Wike said the measure is part of Tinubu’s efforts to ensurethat the institution is well equipped to provide the students with the bestamenities. He disclosed this at the flagging off ceremony of theConstruction of 300 capacity Male and 300 capacity Female hostels at theNigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja. Wike informed “doubting Thomas’ that Tinubu is providingleadership since he assumed office as president. He said: “For legal education in this country, just twoyears in office, and let it be recorded for the doubting Thomas’, let it beknown that just two years in office of Mr. President, two years as AttorneyGeneral, we have visited the Nigerian Law School campus two times. In essence,you can say that every year Mr. President has one thing to do in Nigerian LawSchool. “The first time he came here through the Attorney General,he came to flag off the staff quarters and while flagging off the staffquarters, he made a promise, looking around that he has heard informationthrough the Attorney General that the shortage of accommodation for students,and that is why this school is unable to accommodate the number that come outof the various universities. “And that promise he made was in December. Today, we arehere to fulfill that promise that Mr. President made. That shows that when youhave good leadership, there’s nothing difficult in achieving results. “And Mr. President has shown leadership and let anybody saythat since the inception, between 1999, I know that this campus was opened in1997. There are structures here before then. “How many people have intervened directly as a government inthe Law School? We have provided the three utility vehicles to the school.” The minister recalled having a conversation with his son whowas recently called to Bar on the level of infrastructure within the school,noting the need to provide more auditorium. He said: “I was discussing with my son, whom by the grace ofGod was called to Bar and he told me that they had completed the auditorium.And I said that now that we are providing hostel that would take almost 600students, tt would mean that they would not admit more students. “You see? Well, it does not necessarily follow. But I thinksomeone will happen. He said, ‘well, that auditorium, whether it will takeeverybody may not be. I said, which means they require another auditorium sothat they can’t.’ “I said, luckily for us, I was privileged to be with Mr.President last night. And I tabled this to him. He said, ‘go back and make sureanother auditorium is built for the Law School.” On his part, the Director General of the Nigerian LawSchool, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, recalled how Wike promised to make abudgetary provision in 2025 for the building of 300-bed space Students’ Hostelsfor male and female students at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari to assist theNigerian Law School. He said the flag off was the fulfillment of the promise Wikemade on December 9, 2024. Chiroma said: “You may recall that on the 9th of December2024 during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of ten (10) units ofstaff quarters and donation of vehicles to the Nigerian Law School, HisExcellency, the Honourable Minister of theFederal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike,promised to make a budgetary provision in 2025 for the building of 300-bedspace Students’ Hostels for Male and Female students at the Nigerian Law SchoolBwari, Abuja to assist the Nigerian Law School.” He commended Wike for fulfilling his promise which is theflag off for the construction of 300-bed space hostel each for male and femalehostels at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja. “This Hostels will go a long way in assisting the NigerianLaw School to fulfilling its mandate. We are not taking this gesture forgranted.” Noting that the Minister is repeating history, he saidposterity would be kind to him. “Posterity will be kind to you when the history of LegalEducation and justice sector is written in Nigeria,” he added.
