The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says its operatives haverecovered two “high-end” vehicles, which were stolen in the Netherlands andshipped to Nigeria. In a statement on Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, forcespokesperson, said the vehicles were recovered in Lagos and Akwa Ibom states. The police spokesperson said the investigation revealed thatthe vehicles were stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland. Hundeyin said the vehicles were shipped to Nigeria andarrived in Apapa, Lagos, in late 2023 from the port of Antwerp in Belgium. “Following the recovery, the Nigeria Police Force, throughINTERPOL NCB Abuja, instituted civil forfeiture proceedings at the Federal HighCourt, Abuja,” the statement reads. “Upon the conclusion of due legal processes, the Courtgranted a final forfeiture order in favour of the Government of the Netherlandsthrough the vehicles’ insurance company, thereby facilitating their lawfulrepatriation. “In furtherance of this process, the Nigeria Police ForceINTERPOL team today, 20th October 2025, formally handed over the recoveredvehicles to representatives of the insurance company and the Embassy of theKingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria, marking the successful conclusion of thecross-border recovery and restitution effort. “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode AdeoluEgbetokun, commended the operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja for theirprofessionalism and the effective synergy with international partners,particularly INTERPOL NCB The Hague. “He noted that the successful recovery and repatriation ofthe vehicles reflect the Force’s firm commitment to global law enforcementcooperation and to ensuring that criminal networks involved in cross-bordervehicle theft and smuggling are denied the proceeds of their crimes. “The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to intensifyingintelligence-led policing and strengthening international collaborations aimedat tackling all forms of transnational organised crime.”
