Nigerian activist and Executive Director of the Enough isEnough Nigeria group, Yemi Adamolekun, was reportedly harassed by securityoperatives at the Lekki Toll Gate on Monday while attempting to lay flowers inhonour of victims of the 2020 EndSARS protest. EiE Nigeria disclosed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter)on Monday. The post read, “While peacefully laying a wreath inremembrance of the #LekkiMassacre, #_yemia was harassed by overzealous securityagents. Even in honouring the dead, citizens are intimidated. The EndSARS protest, which erupted in October 2020, was anationwide movement against police brutality, particularly abuses by thenow-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad. The movement reached its peak on October 20, 2020, whensecurity operatives reportedly opened fire on demonstrators at the Lekki TollGate in Lagos. Monday’s incident comes as activists and civil societygroups continue to mark the anniversary of the protest, calling for justice forthe victims and accountability for security forces involved in the violence.
