President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commended the leadership of Ola Olukoyede at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for remarkable achievements in asset recovery and securing convictions. Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the 7th EFCC-NJI Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges on October 20, 2025, at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted the theme, “Enhancing Justice in the Fight against Economic and Financial Crimes.”Tinubu noted that his administration has prioritized public accountability by empowering anti-corruption agencies with the independence to fulfill their mandates. He cited the EFCC’s record of over 7,000 convictions and recovery of more than ₦500 billion in assets within two years. These recovered funds, he said, have been reinvested into social programs like student loans and consumer credit schemes.Urging judges to intensify efforts against corruption, Tinubu emphasized the judiciary’s pivotal role in ensuring justice. He stressed that a corruption-free Nigeria is achievable if citizens uphold integrity and wrongdoers face consequences. “Courts and judges are vital to the anti-corruption process,” he said, warning that societal trust in justice depends on transparent adjudication. He emphasised that corruption affects everyone, including judges, who face the same challenges as ordinary citizens in markets, hospitals, and security.Tinubu called for collaboration across the executive, legislature, and judiciary to combat corruption, noting that a robust judicial system is essential for success. EFCC Chairman Olukoyede echoed this, highlighting the judiciary’s critical role in enforcing accountability. However, he expressed concern over prolonged courtroom processes that hinder progress in high-profile corruption cases, urging for streamlined judicial procedures to bolster the fight against economic crimes.
