Court grants Sowore, #FreeNnamdiKanu protesters bail

A magistrate court in Abuja has granted bail to OmoyeleSowore, human rights activist. Also granted bail were Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’sdisengaged counsel, and 11 others. Sowore was arrested by police on Thursday shortly afterleaving the premises of the federal high court in Abuja. The Sahara Reporters publisher was arrested for leading the#FreeNnamdiKanu protest to “restricted areas” in the city centre. On Tuesday, the court remanded Ejimakor and 11 others for“inciting public disturbance” during the protest. Others granted bail are Emmanuel Kanu, Joshua Emmanuel,Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua,Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, GodwillObioma, and Chima Onuchukwu. The 13 defendants were arrested on Monday at differentlocations in Abuja during the protest. THE BAIL CONDITIONS Abubakar Umar Sai’I’d, the magistrate, granted bail toSowore and the other protesters with a sum of N500,000 each. The magistrate ordered that the defendants present averified national identification number (NIN). They were also were asked to submit three-year tax clearancecertificates and passports as part of the bail conditions.
