Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters ambushed a mobile police patrol in Yobe State on Wednesday, wounding two officers with machetes and briefly seizing a rifle before being repelled in a fierce exchange.The attack occurred around 5:00 p.m. along the Bara–Gulani axis as a joint team from 19 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Bara and 79 PMF in Buni Yadi responded to a distress call from Kojoli village, Gulani Local Government Area.Residents had reported armed herders invading rice farms and destroying crops. Led by ASP Sunday Yunana, the patrol moved in but was met with heavy gunfire from insurgents using assault rifles.The attackers, believed to be ISWAP operatives, inflicted machete wounds on Sgt. Abdullahi Aminu and Cpl. Aliyu Suleiman while attempting to flee with one rifle. The officers fought back, recovering the weapon, dispersing the militants, and seizing a large herd of cattle suspected to have been used as cover.The injured personnel were rushed to Bara General Hospital for treatment. Security reinforcements have been deployed to the area to prevent further incidents.
