Court orders PDP, Damagum to follow convention timetable, adjourns case to Wednesday

The Oyo high court in Ibadan, the state capital, hasadjourned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention suit toWednesday. Last Monday, the court ordered PDP and Umar Damagum, thenational chairman, to proceed with the party’s national convention fixed forNovember 15 in Ibadan. A.L. Akintola, the presiding judge, issued the orderfollowing an ex parte application filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi. The PDP, Damagum, Umar Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state,and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were listed as defendantsin the suit. Adelabi asked the court for an interim injunctionrestraining the defendants from “truncating, frustrating the Guidelines,Timetable and Schedule of Activity and/or disrupting, preventing and orstopping the conduct of the Scheduled National Convention of the PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP) fixed for the 15th and 16th November, 2025, at Ibadan toelect officers of the said party at national pending the hearing anddetermination of the motion on notice”. The applicant had sought an order directing PDP, Damagum andFintiri to “adhere to and honour the provisions of the aforesaid Guidelines,timetable and Schedule of Activities for the conduct of the National Conventionpending the hearing and determination of motion on notice”. During the resumed hearing on Monday, the judge asked theparties to file all the processes after listening to the arguments of counselin the case. Akintola directed the PDP national leadership to adhere tothe guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities for the plannedconvention. The judge adjourned the case to Wednesday for the hearing ofpending applications. During the proceedings, journalists were barred from gainingaccess to the courtroom.
