Ohanaeze Youths Hail Tinubu's Push for Ekweremadu's Transfer

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended the Nigerian government's efforts under President Bola Tinubu to secure the transfer of jailed former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu from the UK to Nigeria, calling it a "heartwarming" development that demonstrates the administration's affection for the Igbo people.In a statement, National President Mazi Okwu Nnabuike contrasted the current initiative with the indifference of former President Muhammadu Buhari's government, which ignored multiple appeals for intervention in Ekweremadu's case. "This singular move by the President Bola Tinubu administration further reinforces his love for the Igbo people," Okwu said, urging the government to expedite the process to a successful conclusion.The effort involves consultations led by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar with UK authorities, aiming to allow Ekweremadu to serve the remainder of his sentence in Nigeria. Okwu also celebrated the recent appointment of an Igbo individual as a service chief, adding that such actions "will never be taken for granted" by Ndigbo.In a separate political development ahead of the 2027 elections, serving and former members of the 1st to 8th Delta State House of Assembly have unanimously adopted President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their sole candidates for the presidential and governorship polls.The endorsement occurred during an extraordinary session in Asaba, presided over by Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, Speaker of the 8th Assembly. It included a vote of "implicit confidence" in the leaders and capped the inaugural Delta State House of Assembly Speaker’s Annual Leadership Series, themed “Leadership Dynamics in the Delta State House of Assembly: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.”The motion was moved by Rt. Hon. Halims Agoda (1st Assembly, former federal lawmaker) and seconded by Hon. Kris Njokwuemeni (2nd Assembly), with unanimous approval from the "Non-Sitting Members" in attendance.In his keynote, Speaker Guwor stressed the importance of "harmonious consensus" among lawmakers for inclusive governance, noting the contributions of every assembly from 1992 onward to Delta State's democracy.Former lawmakers, including Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Frank Enekorogha, Emmanuel Okoro, Basil Ganagana, Ovie Agas, Funkekeme Solomon, Orezi Esievo, Anthony Elekeokwuri, and Johnson Erijo, praised the event for fostering political harmony and knowledge-sharing.Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, who chaired the planning committee, described the gathering as Nigeria's first of its kind and an "evergreen" occasion marked by strong camaraderie.
