I cry whenever anyone is killed in Plateau — Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio says he usually crieswhenever someone is killed in Plateau state. Akpabio spoke on Saturday at Jos Polo Field, Plateau state,during an event organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to welcomedefectors into the party. The event was attended by top APC stakeholders in thenorth-central zone, including Nentawe Yilwatda, APC national chairman, andSimon Lalong, a senator and former governor of Plateau. Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the house ofrepresentatives, Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa; and his Benuecounterpart, Hyacinth Alia, were also present at the event. The senate president lamented that many people have beenkilled in Plateau owing to the insecurity, assuring that President Bola Tinubuis working to bring peace to the state. “Too many lives have been lost. Too many homes destroyed.Plateau deserves peace, and anyone who wants to govern this state must becommitted to peace,” Akpabio was quoted as saying in a statement released byAnietie Ekong, his media aide. “I cry whenever anybody is killed in the Plateau. The stateis looking for peace, and President Tinubu will deliver peace to Plateaustate.” Akpabio commended defectors for joining the ruling party,adding that the state will be delivered to APC and Tinubu in 2027. “Today we have received political caterpillars, includingseveral governorship candidates in the last election,” Akpabio said. “We have also received the director general of PDP campaignsin the last election, several serving and former members of the nationalassembly and their supporters. “Let me appreciate President Tinubu for finding a man ofvalour, a man of integrity and a man of dignity, Prof. Nentawe, to become theNational Chairman. “You can see that he has delivered Plateau state to APCbefore the elections. When you are escorted by a lion like President Tinubu,you have nothing to fear.” Some of the defectors are Istifanus Gyang, a senator whorepresented Plateau north in the ninth assembly; Latep Dabang, director-generalof the campaign for PDP during the 2023 elections in Plateau; Patrick Dakum,governorship candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections; andAlfred Dabwam, former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP). Plateau is one of the worst-hit states by insecurity in thenorth-central as violent attacks have led to the death and displacement of manyresidents.
