Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara, has asked thefederal government to deploy additional troops and other security agents inEruku, a community in Ekiti LGA of the state. His request comes after bandits struck a church in Erukucommunity, reportedly killing three and abducting an unconfirmed number ofworshippers. In a statement on Wednesday signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, thegovernor’s chief press secretary, Abdulrazaq sought the immediate deployment ofmore security operatives to support the existing security architecture in thearea. This, he said, will curtail the wave of attacks in thecommunity. “The Governor wholly condemns the unconscionable attack,sympathises and identifies with the people of Eruku and environs, especiallyfamilies and the CAC directly impacted by the condemnable attack of Tuesday,”the statement reads. “The state government will continue to support the securityagencies to tackle these challenges and ensure the safety of lives andproperties across the state.” The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for thedeployment of 900 additional troops in Kwara, saying this is expected tostrengthen security in the state. “We have indeed seen appreciable calm in many areaspreviously affected,” he added. “We sincerely thank the president for this. We are confidentthat the additional troops will provide further deterrence, overall safety forour people, and permanent calm.”
