Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) has revealed that President Bola Tinubu was stopped by security agencies from travelling to Kebbi State following the kidnapping of 25 female students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga.In a video posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, the former Abia State governor disclosed that the President had initially planned to visit the state personally but was advised against it on security grounds.“The President was even planning to go to Kebbi, but the security stopped him and asked the Vice-President to go,” Senator Kalu said.Vice-President Kashim Shettima subsequently travelled to Kebbi in the President’s stead and has since returned to brief him on the situation.Senator Kalu added that President Tinubu cancelled scheduled international engagements in South Africa, Angola, and other countries to remain in Abuja, where he has been holding intensive closed-door meetings with security chiefs and mourning recent tragedies, including the attack on a church in Kwara State.According to the lawmaker, the President has been “very sad” since news of the Kebbi abduction and the Kwara incident broke, a mood he said is shared across the National Assembly. He also noted that several national events have been suspended in solidarity, including a planned high-profile programme in Taraba State where Governor Agbu Kefas was set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).“So, President Tinubu has shown leadership; he has shown concern. He has shown fatherly care for the children they kidnapped in Kebbi; and this is how it should be,” Kalu stated. The APC chieftain expressed optimism that Nigeria would surmount its current security challenges under the President’s leadership.
