Abass Akande, the renowned fuji music starl popularly knownas ‘Obesere,’ was attacked by a group of suspected thugs during a burialceremony in Okitipupa. The incident occurred on Friday at the government field inOkitipupa LGA, Ondo state. According to an eyewitness Bosede Akinyemi, the eventdescended into chaos when the thugs stormed the venue and began causingtrouble. The attack, according to Akinyemi, targeted Obesere and hisband members just as they were set to perform for the guests. “I was at the party yesterday (Friday). It was a veryshameful act as the group of boys who were thugs in the community causedtrouble. They attacked Obesere and his band while playing entertaining theGuests at the burial ceremony,” she said. The situation, she said, quickly escalated into afree-for-all, forcing attendees to flee for their safety. Akinyemi said the assailants not only assaulted the musicianand his team but also inflicted significant damage. “They swamped on some on Obesere’s boys, destroyed hismusical equipment worth millions of Naira. You need to see the way I took myshoes and ran as fast as I could,” she added. “The thugs just spoil the party for us. It’s a sad one. Iheard one of the bands’ team was stabbed while trying to repeal the attacks.” Andrew Ogunsakin, the chairman of Okitipupa LGA, condemnedthe attack, describing it as “unfortunate and unacceptable”. Ogunsakin expressed his deep disappointment and distasteover the mistreatment of the artiste and his team. He emphasised that such hooliganism would not be toleratedby his administration, adding that it undermines the community’s collectiveharmony and reputation. “I received the news of the unfortunate mistreatment metedout to Abbas Akande Obesere and his team yesterday at the Government Field,Okitipupa, with deep disappointment and utmost distaste. This incident isunacceptable and does not reflect the values we uphold as a people,” he said. “I want to assure the public that the necessary steps willbe taken to address this matter and to prevent such occurrences in the future,whether toward artists, celebrities, entertainers, or any individual visitingor residing in our local government. “I will be personally reaching out to Obesere and his teamto set the record straight and to convey our regrets over the incident.Furthermore, I am looking into the matter thoroughly to ensure such an incidentdoes not repeat itself.ax”
