Gunmen belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Saturday abducted 13 teenage female farmers while they worked on their fields in Mussa District of Askira-Uba Local Government Area.The incident was confirmed by the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Askira, who represents the constituency.According to the lawmaker, the girls, all between the ages of 13 and 19, were harvesting crops when the terrorists stormed the farmland in large numbers and took them away into the bush.Residents said the attack happened in the afternoon, forcing other farmers to flee for their lives.Security sources told journalists that troops have been mobilized and a search-and-rescue operation is currently underway in the area.The latest abduction has heightened fears among farming communities in southern Borno, where insurgents continue to target villagers despite sustained military operations.
