Police take custody of suspect wanted over killing of FRSC officer, daughter — after arrest in Ghana

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken custody of VictorBenjamin Fajemirokun, the fugitive wanted for the alleged abduction and murderof Lasisi Funmilayo, an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), andher daughter Sewa, in Ogun and Osun states. On Sunday, the Ghanaian police arrested 36-year-oldFajemirokun after he fled Nigeria to evade arrest by security agents. George Ohene-Boadi, commander for the Eastern South regionalpolice command, said the Ghanaian police acted after intercepting a videoalleging that the suspect had abducted and killed the FRSC officer and herdaughter. On Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the NPF spokesperson, said ina press statement that Fajemirokun has been handed over to the Nigeria police. “The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL NationalCentral Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has taken full custody of fugitive suspect VictorBenjamin Fejemirokun,” the statement reads. “The suspect was handed over by the Ghana Police Servicetoday in Accra, Ghana, following a coordinated multi-agency operation.Fejemirokun had fled Nigeria after the abduction and suspected murder of anFRSC officer and her young daughter in Osun State. “The Ghana Police Service, acting on credible intelligencethat the suspect was hiding within their jurisdiction, effected his arrest andimmediately notified the Nigeria Police Force. “Acting on this notification, Interpol NCB Abuja swiftlyproceeded to Accra, where the handover was finalised.” Hundeyin said Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general ofpolice (IGP), expressed condolences to the family of the victims and assuredthe public that the investigation into the matter would be thorough. He promised that Fejemirokun would be arraigned once theprobe is concluded. The IGP also praised the Ghana police service for theirprofessionalism and cooperation in the operation.
