Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cautioned the LagosState chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, against worrying about hispolitical choices, stressing that it should be more concerned about the trueidentity and age of its leaders. Atiku said the APC in Lagos State showed hypocrisy, selective amnesia, and intellectual laziness by mocking him over his decisionto officially join the African Democratic Congress, ADC. In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on PublicCommunication, Atiku insisted that his political relevance is not in question. According to Atiku: “The attention of the Atiku Media Officehas been drawn to yet another hollow, ill-considered statement issued by theLagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), wherein itsspokesman, Seye Oladejo, attempted to mock former Vice President Atiku Abubakarfor joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC). As usual, the Lagos APCdisplayed its trademark hypocrisy, selective amnesia, and intellectuallaziness. “For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku Abubakar’s politicaljourney is public, transparent, and fully documented. His age is known, hisparents are known, his educational records are intact, and his public life canbe traced from childhood to national prominence without the need for forensicexperts, private investigators, or sworn affidavits to reconcile conflictingidentities. “This already places him miles ahead of their paymasterwho—by all reasonable public evidence—is well past 90, yet insists on clingingto power and is already scheming for a second term. If Atiku, a far healthier, mentally sharper, and globally respected statesman, is “too old” to aspire at79, then what do we call a visibly frail leader whose true age remains one ofthe country’s best-kept mysteries? “The APC cannot, on one hand, enable a man who has switchednames, ages, origins, and educational histories, yet on the other hand attackAtiku for making strategic political moves within a democratic system. Partymobility is not a crime; identity fraud is. “Atiku’s decision to collaborate with the ADC is driven byconviction, nation-building, and a shared democratic vision—not desperation.Only those accustomed to treating political parties as private estates willfind such collaboration confusing.” He charged the Lagos APC to stop pretending to be concernedabout Nigeria’s future, noting that their real fear is simple andunderstandable. The statement added: “Atiku Abubakar remains the single mostformidable, experienced, and prepared leader in the country today. His moralstamina, political clarity, and national acceptance continue to expose theemptiness of the APC’s propaganda and the illegitimacy of the regime theyserve.” He said If the APC is looking for a man defined by“restlessness, panic, and desperation,” they need not look far. “He is in the Villa—struggling to govern, struggling toappear coherent, and struggling to convince Nigerians that he is the age heclaims to be. “Rather than issuing unintelligent statements, the Lagos APCshould direct its energy toward explaining the collapsing economy, theinsecurity consuming the country, the hardship imposed on citizens, and thehuman suffering that has become the lasting legacy of their party,” he added.
