Army promotes 28 brigadier generals, 77 colonels

The Nigerian Army council has approved the promotion of 105senior officers to the ranks of major general and brigadier general. In a statement on Friday, Appolonia Anele, acting directorarmy public relations, said the council approved the promotion on Thursday. According to the statement, 28 brigadier generals werepromoted to the rank of major general, while 77 colonels got elevated to therank of brigadier general. The promotion list includes officers occupying criticalintelligence, logistics, and operational positions across various formations. Officers promoted to the rank of major-general include O.Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; S.M. Uba, director of defenceinformation; R.E. Hedima, acting chief of military intelligence army; R.T.Utsaha, deputy director of defence operations; A.M. Umar, commandant of theWarrant Officer Academy; S. Sulaiman, deputy military secretary (army); I.O.Bassey, director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and others, includingC.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering;S.Y. Yakasai, acting director of procurement in the office of the chief of armystaff; S.S. Tilawan, acting commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force North EastOperation HADIN KAI; and I.M. Abbas, commander of the 34 Brigade. The council also approved the promotion of Z.A. Saiduposthumously. Seventy-seven colonels across various corps and departmentswere also elevated to the rank of brigadier-general, including Y. Ibrahim ofthe Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja; N.N. Gambo, army headquartersdepartment of civil-military affairs; A. Saidu, headquarters Nigerian Armyfinance corps; I. Waziri, office of the chief of defence staff; M.M. Sani,Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; M.T. Nagudu, Nigerian Army armourschool; K.O. Bukoye, commander of the 401 special forces brigade; and Y.K.Audu, headquarters of the joint task force north-east operation HADIN KAI. Waidi Shaibu, the chief of army staff (COAS), congratulatedthe newly promoted senior officers and their families. “The officers must uphold, without compromise, their sacredoath of allegiance to defend the territorial integrity of the Federal Republicof Nigeria,” Shaibu said. “Their loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute,unwavering and beyond reproach.” The COAS charged the officers to demonstrate exemplaryleadership and inspire their subordinates through personal conduct.
