Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, on Tuesday officially flagged off the Federal Government’s E-Tricycle Deployment Programme at the University of Lagos, rolling out 240 brand-new electric tricycles and 12 solar-powered charging stations to 12 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The initiative, fully funded through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is designed to provide students with clean, affordable, and reliable campus and intra-city transportation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.Speaking at the colourful launch on the UNILAG campus, Dr Alausa said each beneficiary university will receive a fleet of the eco-friendly tricycles, which will be owned and managed directly by the respective Students’ Union Governments (SUGs) to guarantee low fares and long-term sustainability.“This is Renewed Hope in action, practical, measurable, and impactful for our students,” the minister declared. He expressed profound gratitude to TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, and the leadership of all participating universities for their collaboration in making the project a reality. The deployment marks another student-focused intervention by the Tinubu administration, coming months after the rollout of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and increased funding for tertiary institutions.
