AFCON 2025: FIFA mandates clubs to release players December 15

The Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, hasconfirmed clubs can now release their players latest December 15 for the 2025Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports. FIFA’s decision will now ease concerns across Europeanclubs, with the majority of them set to lose their players for the biennialcompetition. Clubs were earlier expected to release invited players twoweeks before the start of the competition. However, after a fruitful deliberation between FIFA, CAF,and other major stakeholders, an agreement was reached to push the release dateback by a week. The agreement could, however, affect the majority of thecountries, which have set up friendly games ahead of the preparation. Nigeria’s Super Eagles against the Pharaohs of Egypt, scheduledfor Sunday, 14 December, is now doubtful. Morocco will host the competition from 21 December 2025 to18 January 2025.
