The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested five persons who fabricated and circulated a fake kidnapping video involving students of a secondary school in Oron LGA.State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, announced the arrest on Thursday, December 4, 2025, during a security parley with youth leaders from the 31 local government areas.He described the act as “reckless and dangerous,” saying it was capable of causing panic and eroding public confidence.“Five suspects who staged and circulated the false kidnapping incident have been charged to court this morning,” CP Azare said.He warned that the command will deal decisively with anyone spreading misinformation aimed at destabilising the state.The CP urged youth leaders to promote responsible use of social media, counter fake news, and embrace dialogue instead of confrontation in dealings with investors and contractors in their communities.“Peaceful dialogue fosters development and trust, while confrontation only hinders progress,” he stressed.
