US delegation meets Benue clerics, Tiv ruler over attacks on Christians

The United States delegation conducting a fact-findingmission on alleged Christian-targeted attacks in Nigeria visited Benue State onMonday. During the visit, members of the delegation met withCatholic bishops and the traditional ruler of the Tiv people. US Congressman Riley Moore shared the encounter in a post onX, highlighting his support for Tiv and Christian leaders in the state. “It was an honour and deeply moving to meet with hisexcellency Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, Bishop Isaac Dugu, and His Royal HighnessJames Ioruza, traditional ruler of the Tiv people, to discuss the ongoinggenocidal campaign by the Fulani in Benue State,” Moore wrote. A consistent advocate for the protection of Christiancommunities in Nigeria, Moore stressed that the United States will not overlookthe challenges reported by local leaders. “Our brothers and sisters in Christ will no longer suffer insilence,” he said. “The United States has heard your cries and we are workingdiligently toward solutions.” Earlier, Moore praised the Federal Government for itstransparency and cooperation with the US in addressing Nigeria’s growinginsecurity. This followed his meeting with the National Security Adviser, NuhuRibadu, on Sunday. He described the visit to Nigeria as a “very productiveone”, noting on X, “More details to come. Happy Sunday. God is Great!” On Monday, he provided further updates, explaining thatdiscussions focused on terrorism in the North-East and violent attacks in theMiddle Belt—issues he said are of particular concern to President Donald Trumpand himself. “There were concrete steps and actions discussed at length,that if fully executed, I believe will enhance security across the country forall Nigerians, disrupt and destroy terrorist organisations in the northeast andstop the killing of Christians (a specific concern for @POTUS and me),particularly in the Middle Belt of the country,” Moore wrote. He also commended the recent rescue of 100 abducted Catholicschoolchildren, thanking the Nigerian government and President Bola Tinubu. “I want to thank the Nigerian government and @officialABATfor rescuing the 100 innocent and precious Catholic school children. “This is a positive demonstration of the government’sincreasing response to the security situation and shows commitment to theemergency declaration laid out by President Tinubu,” he added. Moore further noted that US concerns were “positivelyreceived” and cited the establishment of a joint task force between Nigeria andthe United States as evidence of deepening collaboration.
