First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has moved to downplay thecontroversy surrounding her exchange with Governor Ademola Adeleke during herinstallation as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua in Ile-Ife, on Sunday, an effortquietly echoed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.The development might indicate that both parties saw theincident as a non-issue and have decided to move on. In a cryptic social media post on Tuesday, the First LadyTinubu addressed the viral moment in which she interrupted Governor Adelekewhile he was singing during his address at the event. The post suggested that the public uproar over the incidenthad been exaggerated, noting that critics often amplify minor moments intoneedless controversies. She wrote, “Those entrusted with leadership understand theirduties and how to steer the affairs of society. More often, it is the followersand critics who scrutinize every step, amplify minor missteps, and turn theminto needless controversy.” The message was subsequently shared by Governor Adeleke’sspokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, a move widely interpreted as an attempt todownplay the incident and signal that the governor’s camp did not view it asoffensive. Also, on Tuesday, First Lady Remi Tinubu issued acongratulatory message to the wife of Governor Adeleke on her 60th birthday,praising her role in Osun governance, especially through her Renewed HopeInitiative (RHI) in the State. Recall that Governor Adeleke hadbeen singing while addressing the audience during the ceremony. As hecontinued, Mrs Tinubu stepped toward the microphone and reportedly asked him towrap off, saying, “Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone.” The brief exchange, captured on video, quickly circulated onsocial media and triggered widespread debate among netizens. Many Nigerians described the First Lady’s action as “rude,”particularly toward a sitting governor, while others argued she was merelyattempting to maintain the flow of the event. While some defended Senator Tinubu’s intervention as ameasure to keep the programme on track, others insisted it came across asdiscourteous.
