Career diplomat Dr. Emmanuel Adeyemi faced intense questioning during Wednesday’s Senate screening after he could not name the three senators currently representing his home state of Ekiti. The Acting Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who holds a PhD in International Relations from France, had impressed the Committee on Foreign Affairs with his postings in Addis Ababa and Hong Kong. However, while acknowledging the lawmakers, Adeyemi correctly identified Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) and Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), but stumbled on the third Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North). The lapse drew sharp criticism from senators, who argued that an ambassadorial nominee should know the basic political representatives of his own state. The screening of the remaining 64 nominees continues.
