Nearly two years after he was diagnosed with an undisclosedform of cancer, King Charles III has shared “good news” about his treatmentjourney. “Indeed, today, I am able to share with you the good newsthat thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence todoctors’ orders, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the newyear,” the king said in a video message on Friday. The monarch said the milestone is both a personal blessingand a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer carein recent years. Buckingham Palace announced the monarch’s diagnosis inFebruary 2024. Though the kind of cancer he had was unspecified, thedevelopment came weeks after he was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. In his video message, the king said he was profoundly movedby what he called the “community of care that surrounds every cancer patient”. “But I have also learned something that troubles me deeply. At least nine million people in our country are not up to date with the cancerscreenings available to them,” he added. “That is at least nine million opportunities for earlydiagnosis being missed. Early diagnosis, quite simply, saves lives.” Since his diagnosis, Charles has visited cancer centresacross the United Kingdom, raising awareness around the disease. Last April, he was announced as the new patron of CancerResearch UK. The monarch has also been a patron of Macmillan CancerSupport for almost three decades.
