President Patrice Talon has appealed to neighboring countries for assistance in locating and extraditing suspects involved in a recent foiled coup attempt, including the main ringleader, Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri.During a press conference in Cotonou, Talon revealed that Tigri and several accomplices fled across borders after the failed plot on December 7, 2025."We have issued international arrest warrants for them and formally requested cooperation from the affected countries to arrest and return them to Benin for justice," Talon stated. He emphasized the importance of accountability, adding, "I am confident that regional partners will respond positively, as these individuals must face the consequences of their actions."Talon described Tigri's hasty departure from a military camp, noting that the colonel left by car in civilian clothes, without belongings, and abandoned a child at the site. Tigri later denied being present during subsequent events that allowed the group's escape. The president highlighted that successful extradition would help reduce regional tensions stemming from the destabilization attempt.Beninese authorities have engaged international and regional mechanisms, including ECOWAS, to facilitate the suspects' capture and return. As of now, there has been no public response from the government of Niger regarding the extradition request.
