TEAM LIST: Onyeka, Onyemaechi replace Chukwueze, Sanusi in Eagles’ starting XI against Tunisia

Eric Chele, the Super Eagles head coach, has made twochanges to the team’s starting line-up for the second game against Tunisia atthe ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Franco-Malian coach opts to adjust the shape of theEagles’ side that defeated Tanzania 2-1 in their opening game of thecompetition. Samuel Chukwueze, who was one of the drifting wingers thatstarted the previous game, is dropped to the bench and replaced by FrankOnyeka, a defensive midfielder. Onyeka will form a midfield trident with Alex Iwobi andWilfred Ndidi. Zaidu Sanusi, one of the players who got sticks for theirperformances in the first game, is replaced by Bruno Onyemaechi, his directcompetition in the left-back position. The left-back will flank the retained centre-back pairing ofCalvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi, while Bright Osayi-Samuel also continued hisshift as the right-back.The familiar duo of Victor Osimhen and Akor Adam will leadthe team’s attack, with Ademola Lookman with positional freedom to find spacebehind them. The Super Eagles take on Tunisia at 9 pm Nigerian time onSaturday. The team will face Uganda in the final group match on December 30. A win against Tunisia will seal Nigeria’s progress into theknockout phase of the competition. However, the last time the two teams met atAFCON, Tunisia sent Nigeria out of the 2021 edition.
