Insecurity: Nigerian govt should assist Borno to resettle IDPs – Ndume

Former Senate leader, Ali Ndume, has appealed to the FederalGovernment to take necessary humanitarian measures to assist the Borno Stategovernment to resettle, reconstruct, and rehabilitate the displaced victims ofover 10 years of insurgency. The senator representing Borno South made the appeal at aChristmas event in collaboration with the Coalition of Christian Youths(Youth-CAN) for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge at the CANCentre in the northeastern state. Senator Ndume used the occasion to commend the Borno StateGovernor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, whom he described as a leader who hasdemonstrated exceptional commitment to humanitarian recovery across the state,particularly in the Gwoza Local Government Area. He said, “Out of the 27 local governments in Borno State,Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has shown uncommon love, courage, and dedicationto Gwoza and other conflict-affected communities.” Responding to the passionate appeal by the IDPs for supportto return to their ancestral homes, the lawmaker assured them that he wouldconvey their request to Governor Zulum. “It pleases me to hear that you personally requested mysupport to take you back home. We will ensure your return. “We are fortunate to have a governor who truly cares abouthis people, and I will engage him directly on this matter.” In his remarks, the Chairman of Borno State ChristianYouths, Barrister Ephraim Yidawi, commended the lawmaker for aligning with theyouths and called for the active involvement of Christian youth organizationsin the repatriation and reintegration of refugees from Cameroon.
