Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN,Kingsley Moghalu, has said the case of ex-Attorney General of the Federationand Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has shown Nigerians taking publicoffice that power is transient. Moghalu said public office in Nigeria has now been uncoupledfrom competence, ideology, or values such as integrity. Posting on X, the former CBN deputy governor said the courtshould decide if Malami is guilty or not. Reacting to report linking Malami’s wealth to Sani Abacha’sloot, Paris Club refund, and the CBN agric loan, Moghalu wrote: “By now anyonetaking public office in Nigeria should understand the transience of power, especially in a country where public office has progressively become uncoupledfrom competence, ideology, or values such as integrity. “When people carry on in office like tomorrow will neverarrive, the hunters will become the hunted. This is only a general statementand not a “conviction” of Mr. Malami. “Let the courts decide his guilt or innocence, if they will, and if this does not become yet another alleged corruption case with no realconclusion. “But it was a bit odd when the central bank increasinglybecame the “Central Bank of Agriculture” under the great central banking whizkid, Mr. Emefiele.” This comes as Malami and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz, werearraigned before the Abuja Federal High Court for money laundering on Tuesday. Malami, Abdulaziz, and another individual pleaded not guiltyto the 16-count charge of alleged money laundering. They were arraigned on allegations of unlawful acquisitionand concealment of funds.
