The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, NyesomWike, says the people of Rivers State will not repeat past political mistakesahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling an early start to politicalmobilisation in the state. Wike stated this on Tuesday during a visit to Khana LocalGovernment Area of Rivers State, stressing that political activities wouldbegin in January 2026. The immediate past governor of Rivers State warned residentsagainst making choices they might later regret. “We won’t make mistakes again. The first one you have done –have they said thank you? So, if you make another mistake, that means they willdrive you out,” he said. Although Wike did not mention Governor Siminalayi Fubara byname, the comment is a veiled reference to the ongoing political rift betweenboth men. Fubara, who succeeded Wike as governor in 2023, has presidedover a deeply fractured political landscape in Rivers State, with hisadministration engulfed in a protracted power struggle over control of thestate’s political structure. The crisis later escalated into a constitutional standoffthat led to the declaration of a state of emergency and his suspension.
