Governor Buni Signs N515.53 Billion 2026 Budget into Law in Yobe State

Governor Mai Mala Buni has officially assented to the 2026 Appropriation and Finance Bills, totaling N515.53 billion, during a ceremony held in Damaturu on Wednesday.The signing comes approximately two months after the governor presented the budget proposal to the Yobe State House of Assembly on November 6, 2025, in compliance with constitutional requirements. Dubbed the "Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation," the fiscal plan emphasizes continued development in critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and employment generation.Governor Buni highlighted the budget's goal of elevating the quality of life for Yobe residents, stating that it represents the fruition of thorough legislative scrutiny aimed at safeguarding public interests.He praised the state assembly for their timely and diligent passage of the bills, noting the harmonious collaboration between the executive and legislative arms.The approved budget reflects minor adjustments from the initial proposal, with N291.9 billion (62%) allocated to capital expenditure and N223.63 billion (38%) for recurrent spending. Internal reallocations were also made to certain Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).Reaffirming his administration's dedication to fiscal responsibility, Buni pledged ongoing adherence to transparency, accountability, and due process principles that have garnered recognition from organizations like the World Bank's SIFTAS program and BudgIT over the past six years.The governor directed key offices, including the Secretary to the State Government, Ministry of Budget and Planning, and Ministry of Finance, to oversee effective implementation and monitoring across the state's 23 MDAs to drive socio-economic progress.
