Troops recover ammunition in Borno drainage channel

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have recovered a largecache of 12.7mm ammunition in the Bulumkutu railway area of Maiduguri, Bornostate. According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgencypublication, the discovery followed intelligence-led operations andcordon-and-search activities aimed at curbing criminal and terrorist activitiesin the region. Security sources said the recovery happened around 3:00 pmon Friday after residents reported suspicious metallic objects inside adrainage channel. Military personnel, supported by police explosive ordnancedisposal (EOD) teams, secured the area and conducted a thorough search of thedrainage channel. They recovered 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, includinglive rounds and power banks concealed in the channel. The publication said preliminary actions were taken tosecure the site while efforts continued to drain water from the channel tocheck for more hidden items. Troops, alongside police and other security agencies, havemaintained a strong presence in the area to protect residents and criticalinfrastructure and to prevent any attempts by criminals or terrorists toreclaim the recovered ammunition. Makama said there were no casualties or unusual incidentsreported during the operation, and the security situation remains calm butunder close watch. The military urged residents to remain vigilant and reportsuspicious activities to security agencies, noting that community support isvital for maintaining peace and security in the north-east.
