Boat Mishap Claims 25 Lives in Yobe

At least 25 people have lost their lives after a passenger boat capsized in Garin Garbi community, Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State, on Friday.Eyewitnesses reported that the boat, carrying men and women, overturned while ferrying passengers across a local waterway, leading to the tragic incident.Fourteen survivors were rescued alive, but search and rescue operations continue for those still missing.The Chairman of Nguru Local Government Area, Hon. Muhd M. Ahmed Mairami, visited the scene shortly after the accident. Visibly moved, he expressed condolences to the bereaved families and pledged the council's support.Security operatives and community volunteers have been deployed to assist in the ongoing search and recovery efforts.Hon. Mairami described the incident as a "devastating tragedy" and urged residents to remain calm while calling for prayers for the victims and their families.Boat accidents remain a recurring concern in parts of northern Nigeria, often linked to overloading, poor vessel maintenance, and challenging water conditions. Authorities have repeatedly called for stricter safety measures on inland waterways.
