Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party(NNPP), says President Bola Tinubu will be defeated in 2027 if the election isfree and fair. Speaking during his appearance on Daily Politics, aprogramme on Trust TV, Galadima said the opposition will defeat the AllProgressives Congress (APC) in 2027 if the electoral process reflects the willof voters. “The truth must be told. There is no APC presidentialcandidate in 2027 that can get the mandate of the people if there is a free andfair election,” he said. Galadima brushed aside questions about whether recentdefections to the APC would secure Tinubu’s victory. “He will not win. If there is a free and fair election, lethim try it. I challenge him,” Galadima said. The NNPP chieftain anchored his position on what hedescribed as widespread public dissatisfaction, particularly among ruraldwellers and farmers, who, according to him, constitute the majority ofNigeria’s population. He accused the federal government of deliberatelyundermining agriculture through high input costs and import policies, sayingprices of essentials such as fertiliser have surged. “Farmers constitute the majority of the Nigerian population. And none of them, no farmer, will vote for an APC government,” he said. “Buyers are not happy with the development, which means nextyear there will be no incentive for anybody to go to the farm. “And if they don’t go to the farm, there will be a problem. This government has decided to import things that Nigerians can produce tocrash prices.” Galadima warned that reduced farming activities could worseninsecurity, arguing that hunger and joblessness often fuel crime. “People must eat. Because if they don’t go to the farm, theycan’t eat. That makes it easy for me to say that the APC will lose the electionflat,” he said. Galadima also reiterated his long-held claim that AtikuAbubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the 2019presidential election.“And I can swear by the Quran that Abubakar won thatelection on adult suffrage. Yes, I have said this time without number. Evenwhen Muhammadu Buhari was in power, I said it over one million times in thepress that Buhari lost the 2019 election to Atiku,” he said. Galadima argued that the declaration of Buhari as the winnerof the election and the subsequent judicial validation of the outcome did notnegate his position. He clarified that his position does not imply that he isbacking Abubakar for the 2027 elections.
