Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has advised Nigeriansin the United States who are hiding over fears of deportation to return homeand avoid possible arrest. In a post on X on Saturday, Sani said reports of thousandsof Nigerians going into hiding due to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE,activities were concerning, stressing that hiding was not a solution. He urged affected individuals to respect themselves andconsider returning to Nigeria voluntarily, noting that even some US citizensare sometimes affected during enforcement operations. According to him, those who are opting for self-deportationhave come to terms with the situation, adding that US President Donald Trumpstill has three years left in his tenure. Sani’s remarks come amid growing concerns over immigrationenforcement and deportation in the United States. He wrote: “The thousands of Nigerians reportedly going intohiding in the US out of fear of deportation by ICE should respect themselvesand return home to avoid arrest. “A situation where sometimes even the US citizens are notspared, hiding is not an option. Those who are self-deporting have read andunderstood the reality. Trump has 3 more years for everyone.”
