A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, RotimiAmaechi, has said that the party should zone its presidential ticket to theSouth. Amaechi spoke during a meeting with some ADC leaders in KanoState. He, however, said he would support whoever emerges as theparty’s flagbearer, regardless of region. “The ADC presidential ticket should go to the South. Ifsomeone from the North emerges as the ADC candidate, I’m not saying we won’tcampaign, but it will be difficult to convince the southern part of the countryto support the person. “I also advise the ADC to look around and search for thebest material that we can convince Nigerians will turn things around. “And there are three factors to look for. First is capacity.Second is age. You get the point, because it makes it easier for those of uswho are from the South to say, look, we are going to compete. “Third, which is the last point, is to respect the unwrittenlaw of power, which is now in the South. “We should conclude that and then transfer power to theNorth. You get the point? Because it makes it easier for those of us who arefrom the South to say, look, we are going to compete, since the North has said,‘Finish your tenure.’ “But if you then elect somebody from the North, I’m notsaying we’re not going to campaign, but it will be difficult to convince theSouth to give up power, because it will ask the North why it is only when powercomes to the South that there is a problem. “But again, whether it is a Southerner or a Northerner isimmaterial. I will support whoever emerges at the primary,” he said.
