Osun Guber Poll: INEC publishes candidates’ details

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, hasannounced the publication of the personal particulars of candidates and theirrunning mates for the forthcoming governorship election in Osu State. In a statement issued by Musa Olurode, Osun INEC PublicAffairs Officer on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr MutiuAgboke on Sunday, the Commission confirmed that 14 political partiessuccessfully uploaded the names and required documents of their candidateswithin the stipulated timeframe. According to the statement, “the submission followed theconclusion of party primaries and the close of the designated portal foruploading candidates’ particulars”. The Commission listed the compliant political parties as A,AA, AAC, ADC, ADP, APGA, APC, APM, APP, BP, NNPP, PRP, YPP and ZLP. It stated that the list of candidates was released by itsheadquarters in Abuja after verifying compliance with constitutional andregulatory requirements. INEC said the publication was in accordance with Section29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Item 4 of the Timetable and Schedule ofActivities for the Osun State Governorship Election. The statement noted that “copies of each candidate’s FormEC9, alongside their academic credentials and other supporting documents, wouldbe displayed at the Commission’s state office and across its local governmentoffices.” It added that “the documents would be available forinspection from Monday, 16 February 2026, at the state office, all 30 localgovernment area offices and the Area Office in Osun State. “The Commission hereby notifies political parties and thegeneral public that fourteen political parties have successfully complied withthe requirements within the stipulated timeframe.” INEC advised political parties, candidates and members ofthe public to inspect the published documents as provided by law. The Commission clarified that only the fourteen politicalparties listed would participate in the forthcoming governorship election,having met the necessary conditions within the prescribed period. Meanwhile, the REC, Adegoke, reassured stakeholders of theCommission’s commitment to transparency and professionalism. “The Commission remains firmly committed to the conduct ofcredible elections in accordance with the law and best democratic practices,”Agboke said.
