Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has attributed the lowturnout in the FCT area council elections to the signing of the Electoral ActAmendment Bill by President Bola Tinubu. Sowore made this claim on Saturday at the 001 Polling Unit,LEA Primary School, Kabusa, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC. The former presidential candidate stated that a lot ofNigerians have lost confidence and trust in the electoral process. “What we have discovered is that more and more of our peopleare no longer voting, and I think it was made adverse by the newly signedelectoral law, which doesn’t give transparency the oxygen it needs becausedemocracy needs one oxygen, that’s trust. “The moment trust is lost, people stay at home because thereis nothing more voluntary than voting – you take your money, you take yourtime, and if you feel like the thing is not going to produce the results youwant, you don’t leave your house,” he said. The publisher of Sahara Reporters, however, said the FCTelections are not the elections that Nigerians are focusing on, but 2027general elections.
