Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of Ondo, says security of thestate is non-negotiable, insisting that no society can prosper in an atmosphereof fear and no government can claim legitimacy without protecting lives andproperty. Aiyedatiwa spoke on Wednesday during the passing-out paradeand induction of 500 new operatives (batch 05, BR05) of the Ondo state securitynetwork agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, at the Arcade complex in Akure. The governor described the ceremony as symbolic andhistoric, marking a key step in consolidating the state’s security architectureamid persistent threats in forests, farms, highways, and communities. He said the newly inducted operatives, now transformed fromcivilians into disciplined guardians, had undergone rigorous, comprehensivetraining focused on physical endurance, tactical operations, intelligencegathering, inter-agency synergy, rules of engagement, human rights, rule oflaw, and the Omoluabi ethos of integrity and restraint. Aiyedatiwa added that Amotekun remains a community-rooted,intelligence-driven, and constitutionally aligned outfit designed to complementfederal agencies like the police, the army, the Department of State Services(DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), rather thanrival them. “The BR05 represents not merely an addition in numbers butan upgrade in capacity, a reinforcement of doctrine, and a strengthening of ourcollective resolve to secure every inch of Ondo State,” the governor said. He warned that the corps’ strength lies in professionalrestraint, community trust, and adherence to ethical values, not brute force. He charged the new operatives to exercise sound judgement, maintain discipline, and act strictly under the law, as any abuse of powerwould undermine public confidence.
