President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm theappointment of Mainasara Illo as executive secretary and chief executiveofficer of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Centre (NADC). Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s requestduring plenary on Tuesday. In the letter, Tinubu said the request was made in line withthe provisions of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Act. “Pursuant to section 15 of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Act2025, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment ofMr. Mainasara Illo as executive secretary and chief executive officer of theNigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC) for an initial term of four years,” theletter reads. “While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm thenominees in its usual expeditious manner, please accept, Distinguished SenatePresident, the assurances of my highest regards.” Akpabio subsequently referred the request to the relevantcommittees. “This is referred to the committee on narcotics and also thecommittee on sports to jointly screen and refer to the senate as soon aspracticable,” he said. In a separate letter, Tinubu asked the senate to confirm theappointment of two nominees as commissioners in the Revenue Mobilisation,Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). The nominees are Amina Gamawa as commissioner representingBauchi state and Abudullahi Mukhtar as commissioner representing Kaduna state. Tinubu said the request was made in accordance with theprovisions of the constitution. “In accordance with the provisions of Section 1541 of theConstitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, I am pleasedto forward for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of two underlistednominees as commissioners in the Revenue, Mobilization, Allocation, and FiscalCommission,” he said. The president said he expects the Senate to confirm thenominees promptly. “While I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm thenominees in its expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished senators, theassurances of my highest consideration,” he said. Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs. “This is referred to the Committee of National Planning andEconomic Affairs to report to the Senate within the next one week,” he added.
