PDP leaders need to embrace dialogue, strengthen party ahead of 2027 – Senator Natasha

Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has urgedleaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to embracereconciliation and move beyond lingering litigations. This followed the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal ofNigeria concerning the party’s national convention. Natasha made the call in a statement issued in Abuja onTuesday by her media aide, Mike Idoko. The lawmaker charged party members across the country to seethe judgment as an opportunity to restore unity, strengthen internal democracyand reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections. She stated that prolonged legal battles within the partycould undermine the aspirations of loyal members who hope to contest electionsunder the PDP platform. “The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a democratic partythat believes in the rule of law, we must now shift our focus from litigationto reconciliation and rebuilding. “The strength of our party lies in unity, collective purposeand our shared commitment to providing Nigerians with credible leadership,” shesaid. According to her, political parties exist primarily toprovide platforms for citizens seeking to serve their communities and thecountry through elective offices. She warned that internal disputes should not be allowed toderail the aspirations of party members preparing for future elections. She further urged party leaders to adopt compromise andstatesmanship in resolving internal disagreements, noting that the momentrequires maturity, dialogue and a collective commitment to the survival andprogress of the PDP. Natasha urged stakeholders to work towards an inclusive andcredible national convention in compliance with the guidelines of theIndependent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
