The national working committee (NWC) of the PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has rejected the dissolution ofthe state executive committees in Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo by a faction backed byNyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). On Saturday, the Wike group held a congress in Ekiti andelected Lanre Omolase as the PDP chairman in the south-west state. In a statement, Ini Ememobong, national publicity secretaryof the Turaki PDP faction, described the move as “illegal and unwarranted”. Ememobong said the dissolution undermines ongoingreconciliation efforts within the opposition party and is aimed at deepeninginternal divisions. “We have seen a purported announcement of the dissolution ofthe elected state executive committees in Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo states. Thisdissolution, which is illegal and unwarranted, is an affront to the proposedreconciliation for which talks are underway,” the statement reads. He added that the dissolution is “null, void and of noeffect whatsoever”. Ememobong asked members of the PDP in the affected states, including officers at the local government and ward levels, to disregard thedissolution and continue performing their duties.Ememobong said the party leadership remains committed toreconciliation, noting that the push for peace is intended to strengthen thePDP ahead of the 2027 elections. “For the avoidance of doubt, our desire for peace must beunderstood in the context of the need for the salvation of the party for theforthcoming elections, and not misconstrued otherwise,” he said. Following the appeal court judgement nullifying the PDPnational convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the capital ofOyo, which produced Turaki as chairman, party stakeholders have urged bothfactions to reconcile to ensure the party does not miss the opportunity tofield candidates in the 2027 elections. On Tuesday, former Senate President Bukola Saraki advisedthe party to end all legal battles, set aside personal interests, and focus onorganising a new national convention ahead of the deadline set by theIndependent National Electoral Commission in the 2027 election timetable.
