Overview It is estimated that over 554,937 Sudanese refugees have arrived in Libya since April 2023. This includes 73,754 individuals who were registered post-conflict, bringing the total number of Sudanese registered by UNHCR at its registration centre in Tripoli to 90,711. with approximately 340,000 Sudanese arriving through Alkufra alone. Insecurity at the border in the Triangle area and increased border monitoring by Libyan authorities has led refugees to take longer routes, and arrivals via Chad have decreased to an average of 70 per day. Due to the irregular nature of entry, the ad hoc data shared by authorities, and the vast remote land border with Chad, Egypt, and Sudan, combined with movements towards cities along the coast, it remains challenging to provide an accurate number of Sudanese refugees. Urgent Needs Sudanese refugees continue to face significant barriers in accessing public healthcare, due to the lack of valid documentation, limited financial means to cover fees at the rate of foreigners, and constrained hospital capacity. At the same time, instability—combined with the risk of displacement and homelessness—remains a prominent concern, with the majority exhibiting signs of psychological distress. In February, search and rescue operations at sea increased, with 19 operations recorded across Libya. This was accompanied by intensified security campaigns in the south, particularly in Sebha. These developments have further exacerbated protection risks, including heightened exposure to arbitrary detention and refoulement, while also increasing shelter needs and compounding the vulnerabilities of at-risk groups, notably single women, children, and persons with disabilities
