Mozambique continues to experience significant impacts from sustained heavy rainfall and flooding across the Southern, Central and Northern regions as of 21 March 2026. Precipitation levels remain elevated across the Incomáti, Limpopo, Save, Búzi, Púngoè, Licungo, Zambeze, Megaruma, Montepuez, Messalo and Rovuma river basins, with multiple hydrometric stations at or approaching alert levels, and further rainfall is expected to intensify surface runoff and heighten flood risk. Anticipatory Action protocols for flooding were activated across high‐risk provinces from 14 March 2026, supporting the early rollout of predefined measures as rainfall and hydrometric levels increased. Between 7 and 20 March 2026, an estimated 81,804 individuals (17,281 households) were affected, with the most severe impacts in the southern and central provinces, largely in areas previously impacted during the January - February 2026 flooding period, as reported in Flash Update No. 8, which recorded over 799,000 individuals affected. As of 21 March 2026, a total of 53 accommodation centres (ACs) remain operational, hosting 21,780 individuals (6,239 households), while most previously established centres which were activated following the January - February flooding have been deactivated. Individuals currently staying in ACs represent 26 per cent of the total affected population. A significant proportion of displaced households, particularly those whose homes have been destroyed, flooded or remain inaccessible, are currently residing outside formal ACs. These populations are being hosted by relatives, accommodated in community facilities, or sheltering in spontaneous and informal sites that remain largely unmonitored. Among the population in ACs, 21 per cent are men, 33 per cent women, and 46 per cent children.
